The NFL Draft is upon us and the more that mock drafts that get read, the more that I feel people writing them are not sure what the Titans really need. Most of the mock drafts that I have read have the Titans taking either Nick Fairly DT Auburn or Robert Quinn DE UNC. Neither are needed. Here is why: 8th in sacks with 40.0, 15th in Points/game with 21.2, and last year with they 16th pick the Titans selected Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech (got hurt at the beginning of the season). The Titans do not have the best D in the world, however they currently do not have a QB. That is an issue. With QB’s like Blaine Gabbert and Andy Dalton available at the #8 spot, Tennessee needs to address this issue. Remember that whoever takes on the QB role has to hand the ball off to CJ2K a majority of the time. Not a bad deal having to throw the ball about 15-20 times a game, not to mention the Titans have a top WR in Kenny Britt if he could ever get his act together.
Other needs for Tennessee is at the Safety and Linebacker positions. With the emergence of Alterun Verner last season and Cortland Finnigan quietly being on of the top 10 corners in the NFL, the Titans should not be looking to draft any type of corner early (even if Peterson is there at #8). One possibility that would help Tennessee fix the issue at LB is Paul Posluszny, a free agent from Buffalo once a CBA is agreed upon. Since I am partially biased, Puz as he is better known by to Penn State fans, would be a great fit and would help the Titans greatly. However I do not see this issue playing out that way. Tennessee also needs a Safety, and lucky for them there are a couple in the draft worth looking at. In no specific order: Ahmad Black Florida, Rahim Moore UCLA, Will Hill Florida, Jai Eugene LSU, and Ryan Hill The U all could be potential matches in Tennessee for the aging Chris Hope.
Its only a matter of time until we find out what the draft and free agency have to offer.
